Real Estate in Dubai what is freehold and leasehold property in dubai
As a first in the UAE, Dubai allowed foreigners and expats to own property in designated zones. In 2001, the government of Dubai gave foreigners the right to own property on a leasehold basis. The decree for buying property in Dubai on a freehold basis was passed in 2002.
We at S&V properties will try and explain this a bit better here:
If you are a Non GCC national, you can own a property in Dubai in the designated Free Hold zones or you can lease a property for a duration of 99 years in a Lease Hold Zone
Before 2001, if you were a non GCC national, you were not allowed to buy any property or land in Dubai. In 2001, the government of Dubai passed a new rule that allows Non GCC nationals to lease a property in designated area for a duration of 99 years.
In 2002, the government of Dubai passed a new rule that changed everything
This rule allows you to buy and own the property forever in designated free hold zones. This means that you will not only own the apartment, villa or town house but also own the plot that your property is in forever
